The illustrious cast of the Imperial Russian Ballet enjoy performing The Nutcracker more than any other ballet from their extensive repertoire, especially when they are joined by children from local ballet schools in the various towns and city’s they perform in around the world.
During their forthcoming tour of New Zealand the Imperial Russian ballet company will perform with children from New Zealand’s premiere ballet schools throughout New Zealand when they present their interpretation of the most famous and loved ballet of them all, the ageless tale of bravery and dreams that is The Nutcracker.
The Russian Imperial Ballet Company perform all around the world as well as in their own theatre The New Opera in Moscow.
The Imperial Russian Ballet Co. was formed in 1994. Headed by the Bolshoi Theatre soloist, Gediminas Taranda, the Imperial Russian Ballet Co comprises forty five dancers from the major ballet schools of Russia, Kiev & Perm. Actively co-operating with the Imperial Russian Ballet Co are world renowned dancers & ballet stars, including Patrick Dupond (Opera de Paris), Farukh Ruzimatov, Yulia Makhalina and Diana Vishneva (The Mariinsky Theatre), Nikolai Tsiskaridze, Lyudmila Semenyaka and Nadezhda Pavlova (The Bolshoi Theatre), Vladimir Malakhov and Julia Kent (American Ballet Theatre), Tamie Kusakari(Japan).
The name of the company is recognition of the grand masters of Russian Classical Ballet School and the Imperial Family who made such a great contribution to the development of Russian Culture including the creation of the Bolshoi and Marinsky Theatres.
The prime Choreographic style adopted by the company is a classical one, however, they also indulge in modern dance. Their stage repertoire is based on the combination of classical masterpieces and modern choreographic novelties.

It appears there are only 2 Auckland shows at 8pm. Is this correct. Was hoping for a 5pm so I could take my 7 year old daughter. Regards, Karen

Why is there no early evening performance in Auckland? I have a grand-daughter aged 6 who just loves “Nutcracker” music and related activities. Loved the RNZBallet TV recording of the ballet a year or so ago. But an 8pm start is very late for young children.

hi, i made an enquiry a few months ago in respect to a matinee session for the ballet in Auckland so i could take my 7 year old ballet fan. i was told that there was a 5pm session on Sunday 9 november being looked into – could you please tell me if this is going ahead?
Aug 25, 2008, 9:47 amthank you

We live in Auckland and would like to take our 5yr old grand-daughter to the ballet but note that there is no matinee performance and wonder why that is so. I note that there are 5pm performances in Chch & Wgtn, but not Auckland. Whilst a 2.30 matinee would be ideal for the kids we could have taken her to a 5pm.Is it likely that an earlier performance could happen ?

There is no mention of the musical accompaniment. Will any of the shows have live accompaniment? Do you know which orchestra is playing?
Aug 25, 2008, 9:12 amShowinfo says:
Hi everybody in Auckland. We are currently in negotiations with our Auckland venue to run a matinee show on November 9th. This show would start at 3pm. Confirmation of this should come shortly and details of the extra show will be posted on this website. Kind regards Event Entertainment
Aug 25, 2008, 9:50 amShowinfo says:
The ballet is not travelling with a live orchestra. The cost of transporting an orchestra from Russia to accompany the ballet would have made the subsequent tickets prices very expensive. The Imperial Russian Ballet company do, however, have their own orchestra in Moscow. For this tour they will perform to music recorded by their own Moscow orchestra. Kind regards Event Entertainment.
